More Information
This concrete- and brick-clad structure is a good local example of modern architectural post-war high-rise apartment block design. Designed by Libling Michener Architect, for the Manufacturers Life Insurance Company, the 12- storey apartment block has expressive concrete end walls, brown brick between the floor slabs and ribbed concrete balconies. An underground parking garage is located to the south and beneath the tower.
In addition to the main section, the complex features a second area comprised of town-houses, which face onto the Assiniboine River. When the building first opened, they were marketed as, “Winnipeg’s first integration of apartment and townhouse living in a secluded, parklike residential area”. The townhouses, which have been recently remodelled (leaving most of the original design intact) have separate entrances onto a communal parking and circulation space.
