  • Garden City Collegiate is a dual-track French immersion and English high school that is in the process of expansion by way of joining with Jefferson Junior High School on its immediate east; this process is expected to be completed for school opening in September 2009
  • Because of this, its plans were not available but certain features of the school are obvious: its original section is low and best seen from the rear (north) side where its original layout, brick finish and glass block windows remain; to this was added a two-storey wing on the east side that is a period piece of early 1960s construction, with its frame clearly expressed, its detailing simple and in the modern idiom, and its windows intact with the prescribed two-thirds glass block to one-third clear glass ratio
  • A large gym addition was made on the wets side some time later and the school has straggled eastward along the street towards its junior partner, allowing such necessary adaptations as a cafeteria and dedicated shops space; the summer 2009 construction will address this link in particular with a new gym and cafeteria; the combined school has a population of 960 students
