- Hastings is an elementary school with 357 students in kindergarten to Grade 8
- It is a one-storey school that spreads far across its generous property, with the centre section the older portion, a large gym on the north end and a windowless addition on the south
- The original centre section on the facade is symmetrical on a centre entrance with its windows in horizontal strips (partially filled in with stucco) and a mid-brown brick facing; distinctive eaves overhang in a contrasting dark metal
- The gym was added in 1968 to replace a much-smaller room designated the 'general purpose room'
- Its generous yard is shared with École Marie-Anne Gaboury, which was originally a middle-years school
