More Information
Built in 1969 for the Assiniboine North School Division and poised to celebrate its fortieth anniversary, Hedges Middle School is the middle years component in a huge campus which includes Buchanan Elementary and John Taylor High schools, as well as a small community club. It is a large school, built all at one time and intact to its period.
Design Characteristics
| Roof: | mansard |
|---|---|
| Materials: | limestone |
| Neighbourhood: | Crestview, St. James |
- The school is constructed in a series of modular spaces according to function, which makes for a lively exterior that transitions smoothly because of uniform limestone facing and window detailing; shadowing reads well on the monochromatic texture of the stone
- The building is mainly one-storey except for the gym section, which is tied to the rest of the building by the use of a mansard roof which is repeated in the front entrance canopy detail
