Biography

Fredrick Cecil Yeo was born in Swan Lake, Manitoba on March 12, 1918. Growing up, he lived in Melita, Manitoba, Yorkton, Saskatchewan, and Bowsman, Manitoba. Yeo attended the Provincial Normal School (later the Manitoba Teacher’s College) and graduated in 1941. He then worked as a teacher in both Egilson and Bowsman, Manitoba before serving with the Royal Canadian Air Force between 1943–45. After the war, Yeo obtained a Bachelor of Interior Design from the University of Manitoba in 1951, followed shortly thereafter by a Bachelor of Education in 1957.

Yeo worked briefly as an in-house designer for the Arnett Refrigeration and the Hudson Bay House. He missed teaching and began working for the Winnipeg School Division in 1954. During his career, Yeo worked as a teacher at Riverview School and Sargent Park School, as an administrator, and as an art consultant. He worked for the division until his retirement in 1983. Yeo also taught art classes at the Winnipeg Art Gallery, worked on the Provincial Art Curriculum, and helped with the Manitoba Association for Art Education Easter Exhibition for over twenty years.

Yeo was a founding member of The Professional Interior Designers Institute of Manitoba. He was married to Interior Designer Donna Mae Yeo.

Fredrick Yeo passed away on December 26, 1999.
