In the most fundamental sense, the Lutheran Church of the Cross at 560 Arlington Street is a spare composition of two super-imposed rectangular forms. From this spare basis, however, the building gains aesthetic interest and distinction through a variety of architectural gestures. These include the widespread use of Manitoba Tyndall limestone block, whose colour and pattern animate the church's facades. Marking the building's Arlington Street entryway is a series of shallow arches that punctuate the concrete band that wraps the building. These surmount and shelter three openings: the centre, a doorway, the other two containing wood-framed stained glass. Drawing further attention to the Arlington Street portal are the cascading staircases that connect the church to the street, and a soaring modernist church tower, a modern translation in metal and stucco of a traditional ecclesiastical form.
