Join us for this free noon-hour WAF lecture with Dr Óskar Örn from Reykjavik, Iceland.

We are delighted to host this special event, a unique opportunity exploring architectural histories of Iceland from 1875 and their connections to Manitoba. This lecture will explore the development of Icelandic design, including early Icelandic settlements and migrations, and the knowledge-transfer of building technology from Winnipeg to Reykjavik in the early 20th century.

Dr Örn is an Icelandic architect, historian and professor, specialising in areas of global governance, architectures of development, and Icelandic design. A graduate of both the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts and Cooper Union, he completed his PhD at Columbia University. He is a regular contributor to Víðsjá (Icelandic public radio), editor of Nordisk Revy for Arkitektur, and chief curator of Slökkvistöðin—a centre for architecture and spatial arts located in a former fire station in Gufunes, Iceland. His scholarly work has been published in Architectural Theory Review and Architectural Histories, and has taught at the Iceland University of the Arts and the Architectural Association, in London, UK.

WAF is honoured to welcome Dr Örn to Winnipeg and Nýja Ísland (New Iceland).

Venue is accessible. All are welcome; open seating.
