McNally Robinson Bookstore, 1120 Grant Avenue

Join the Winnipeg Architecture Foundation as they celebrate the launch of their new book, Henry Kalen: Photographer. Featuring an introduction from Susan Algie and a presentation from Alison Gillmor, followed by a book signing. Although co-author Serena Keshavjee will be unable to join us this evening, her contributions to the volume will be celebrated.

The launch will be hosted live in the Atrium of McNally Robinson Booksellers, Grant Park and also available as a simultaneous YouTube stream.

Henry Kalen was one of Canada’s most distinguished architectural photographers. His work for prominent Winnipeg architectural firms in the 1960s and 1970s portrayed a stylish, modern, and changing city. This book provides a glimpse of Kalen’s vast body of work photographing Winnipeg’s built environment during the optimistic mid-twentieth century. His photographs have given us the definitive images of many of the city’s most iconic buildings.

Alison Gillmor is a Winnipeg arts and cultural writer and critic.

Susan Algie is one of the founders of the Winnipeg Architecture Foundation and researches, writes and curates for the organisation.
