More Information
Established in the early 19th century by Father Norbert Provencher, the Université de Saint-Boniface is the oldest educational institution in Western Canada. The school began in a small house and eventually moved into a building at the corner of Tache Avenue and Masson Street in 1855. Enrollment grew and in 1880 a new college was built at the present site of Provencher Park. This structure was destroyed by a fire in 1922 and the school was offered a new location, Le Petit Séminaire, at its present address. The neoclassical building and its sparkling silver dome serve as a local landmark.
