In 1957, Prain and Ward prepared the plans and specifications for a superstructure to house the growing St. Vital United Church, located at St. Mary’s Road and Portland Avenue. This superstructure was erected atop of the previously constructed basement, where service had been held since 1952. Visitors enter the sanctuary through the tower which extends three stories and holds a cross constructed of steel I beam. The entry doors are protected by a slightly cantilevered second storey. The building is veneered in red brick and constructed of steel, reinforced concrete and exposed glulam beams.
