This building, Library and Archives Canada's Central Canada Regional Service Centre holds archival records of federal government offices in northwestern Ontario, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta, and the Northwest Territories. Highlights from the collection include records from Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development Canada, the Prairie Farm Rehabilitation Administration, Parks Canada, Canadian National Railways, Correctional Services Canada and the Canadian Grain Commission. The design of the building utilizes a late modern approach in which aspects of a modernist approach are exaggerated for certain design effects. Here the look of the building features a horizontal emphasis, an effect stressed by the use of an unbroken line of ribbon windows along the main (north) facade. Interest is lent by the outward jag in the structure's upper storey. Here, on the main floor (and on the rest of the building's warehouse-like elevations) the Archives' cladding takes the form of vertically-inscribed concrete.
