More Information
The former All Peoples’ Sutherland Mission, an unpretentious multiple-purpose building, was known for its wide-ranging immigrant settlement services and classes and activities for children. The mission’s building, strategically situated in the populous North End, near the Canadian Pacific Railway station and temporary government housing for immigrants, emphasized economy, functionality and durability rather than ornamentation.
The building underwent a major renovation in 2010. A large two-storey high open space welcomes visitors. A projecting glass terrarium shelters the entrance. Seven large poles representing the languages of Indigenous people in Manitoba create a dramatic gesture of welcoming outside the entrance.
