More Information

When Princeton Apartments opened, it was surrounded by large mansions and beautiful tree-lined streets. Described as “grand and theatrical, monumental and self-confident,” the Princeton was designed to fit in with its surroundings and attract well-to-do families.

Its Beaux-Arts classical styling is rare among Winnipeg’s historic apartment blocks. One of the costliest blocks developed during Winnipeg’s 1914 growth period, this is a building of exceptional design and construction qualities.

It’s W-shaped plan was designed to maximize available natural light and ventilation. The building is also an early residential example of fire-resistant reinforced concrete construction with red brick cladding and Tyndall stone trim.
