More Information
This was built to house the Ford Motor Company Assembly Plant. Car parts were shipped from Ontario to assemble cars for sale in western Canada. American architect Albert Kahn designed buildings for Ford across North America. Constructed on red brick, with terracotta details, the 1915 building is very modern in design. Very clean lines with large windows on all floors to facilitate daylight for factory work. In 1941, the Province of Manitoba bought the building for use first as the Manitoba Technical Institute and later as a textbook distribution centre.
