More Information
This fountain commemorates Manitoba’s centennial and the 50th anniversary of the first water supplied to Winnipeg from the Shoal Lake Aqueduct. Construction of the aqueduct flooded Shoal Lake 40 First Nation and cut it off from the mainland. Despite supplying Winnipeg with water for over a century, Shoal Lake 40 had a boil water advisory for over two decades. The advisory ended in 2021 with the opening of the first centralised water treatment facility in the area. An interpretive exhibit tells some of the history of Shoal Lake.
