The extraordinary and transformative journey of a raw, anonymous block of marble to become part of the translucent façade of the Perelman Performing Arts Centre in New York. A fascinating and meticulously crafted documentary that chronicles the long journey of 30,000 tonnes of marble, extracted from a quarry in Portugal, processed in four factories in Europe and carefully transformed until its installation in a majestic building in Manhattan. But what is the cost of all this? Who pays for it and who can afford it? VEINS grants us privileged access to a methodically orchestrated journey involving all kinds of labour, human and industrial processes in very different socio-political contexts that raise ethical and environmental questions in architectural creation.
