Biography
Gershon Mida immigrated to Winnipeg in 1949, at the age of 30. His trade in his home country of Poland was as a cabinet maker. In Winnipeg he initially worked as a carpenter for other Winnipeg builders. After about 4 years he went out as a self- employed general contractor initially building houses mainly in River Heights under his company name G Mida Construction Ltd.
In addition to many homes throughout River Heights, for example 655 Queenston St and 719 Queenston St – the latter was his family’s first home – the company also built commercial buildings. Mr Mida is buried at Shaarey Zedek Cemetery, 235 Armstrong Ave, in north Winnipeg.
