Portuguese Association of Manitoba

The home of the Portuguese Association of Manitoba was designed by local architect Gustavo Da Roza. The centre officially opened on Saturday, March 6, 1988. The $1.5-million project was designed to accommodate the 18,000 Portuguese living in the city at that time. The Portuguese Association was founded on March 3, 1966 by a group of 15 people and was originally run out of a basement.

The building is an example of a late modernist aesthetic. At the time of its opening it contained a library and resource centre, an auditorium containing a state-of-the-art sound system, a playroom for children, offices, and even a restaurant.
