More Information
This is the first and largest Ukrainian Labour Hall built in Canada. Constructed mainly by volunteers and funded by donations, the Temple opened to serve the growing Ukrainian community in Winnipeg. The structure’s neoclassical design includes elaborate sculptures above the main entrance. The Temple played an integral role in the 1919 General Strike, housing meetings and using its print shop to produce pro-strike publications. The main hall of the Temple boasts a painted fire curtain with a pastoral scene and period advertising, and original on-stage floor lighting.
