Mary Speechley Hall, University of Manitoba

Mary Speechly Hall, also known as the Women’s Residence of the University of Manitoba, is a 10 storey contemporary high-rise that was the tallest structure on the Fort Garry campus at the time of its completion in 1964. The structure accommodates 245 residents in single and double rooms, with the main and tenth floors housing lounges for student gatherings. The main floor lounge is inset from the top nine floors that are supported by large concrete columns around the perimeter, creating a covered arcade space that envelops the lounge. On the south side, all rooms have a view to the Red River that runs along Freedman Crescent.
